2nd place @ PKRA Germany

That was it for the longest and biggest event of the year and for PKRA in Europe in 2011.

The event started with two days of good wind , but they had tu run a really big ladder of trials, because only 24 men are allowed to enter the main event. I think this was the competition with most people this year, around 60 men just for freestyle. Then we had another day of perfect wind and flat water but a pretty heavy thunderstorm came in and they had to cancel the competition in the middle of the singles. We also had like 5 days with no wind, so the comp has been quite long for all of us.

When there is that many people, the ones that go to the main event are really good, so every heat can be pretty challenging. I competed on the single elimination against Christophe Tack, Ariel Corniel, Alby Rondina and went to the final against Youri Zoon. I advanced trough the first ones but lost on the final. I had a bad heat on that one and it wasn’t enough to beat this year’s World Champion, so got a 2nd place.

On the doubles I had to compete against Alby to keep my 2nd place. There was 7m weather and went up with my 9m. I had a good heat despite I was so powered up. Crashed a few times eventually but the tricks I did were pretty powerful as I was really lit, so all good

So I won that one and went against Youri on the final. This time I took my 7m and had a really good heat. I went more for low stuff and lower kite angle and Youri went for all his tricks full speed with bigger amplitude and with a bit higher kite angle, so I guess both styles were hard to compare for the judges. I landed some really good tricks. My favourite were front blind mobe, mobe5, blind judge 5 (or blind 315), switch back mobe and s-mobe and a few others. Youri’s best trick was a massive Back Mobe off a wave which impressed more to the judges than my tricks which were more technical but with less amplitude. I’m still happy it was a really close heat against Youri, who has been unbeaten this year so far. Hope I can beat him next time!

Anyway, wanna congratulate him again for been the 2011 world champion already. I also have my vice world champion title almost confirmed for 2011, so I’m pretty amped about it!!
